Englewood Cliffs, NJ – Southern California audiences will be able to celebrate their love of luxury vehicles with even greater enthusiasm at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, thanks to Italian automaker Maserati and the company’s upcoming U.S. debut of the new Quattroporte GranSport, along with the display of the entire Maserati product lineup.
Following the success of the new Quattroporte’s global reveal in Paris in September, the new Maserati flagship sedan features additional high-tech content in the area of on-board comfort and driver assistance, as well as exterior restyling and a new dedicated range strategy, introduced with the GranLusso and GranSport trims.
Additionally, the MY17 Ghibli sports sedan remains faithful to Maserati’s heritage while offering unmistakable class, top-quality performance and a thrilling yet comfortable driving experience, which means a more desirable premium sedan than ever before.
The scene is also dominated by the Levante SUV set to challenge the premium sport utility segment with its unparalleled luxury pedigree and rugged off-road capabilities. The all-new Levante SUV, which helped propel Maserati North America to record sales during that past two consecutive months, will also highlight the Los Angeles program.
The house of the Trident’s range wouldn’t be complete without the sporty GranTurismo model, which will also be on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
“Southern California is a very important market for Maserati’s U.S. sales, so the L.A. Auto Show is the perfect forum to share our entire product line,” said Tom Shanley, Head of Maserati North America. “Maserati’s eye toward the future, coupled with the strength of our dealer network in California, has had a positive impact on the brand and has helped increase our market share throughout North America. Whether you’re looking to drive up PCH in a GranTurismo Convertible, cruise down Rodeo Drive in a Quattroporte or Ghibli, or even venture up to the mountains in a Levante, Maserati now has a lineup of vehicles to meet your needs.”
After three and a half years of unprecedented success in the international markets, the Quattroporte has undergone a substantial restyling that accentuates its elegance without altering its signature Maserati personality.
The restyled Quattroporte, now available, represents the quintessence of Italian sport sedans and is destined to continue a success story that started in 2013.
The exterior of the restyled Quattroporte is recognizable with a new bumper design with matte black profile at the front and the matte black extractor at the rear. The front grille is more pointed and imposing, and it introduces new vertical chrome elements that contrast with the deepness of the shark nose effect. Other distinguishing details of the new Quattroporte are the matte black side skirts and the exterior mirrors, which have been slightly restyled to incorporate new technical elements.
An electrically adjustable Air Shutter has been fitted in the front grille between the air vents and the engine’s radiator. The Air Shutter provides optimal control of the engine’s fluid temperature and, together with the optimization of the new front and rear bumpers, air conveyor and flat bottom, improves the aerodynamic drag of the car by 10%.
The improvements to the interior were introduced to enhance the purity of the model by underlining only the functional parts. This takes place through the clean integration of the new interface elements with the infotainment area and tunnel console.
Specifically, the redesigned central dashboard now accommodates a capacitive high-resolution 8.4” screen with multi touch function.
The new infotainment system is compatible with both the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions.
A new package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is available as an option in the new Quattroporte. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking. An additional new Surround View Camera is available as an option in combination with the Driver Assistance package.
All Quattroporte cars are now equipped with an Air Quality Sensor, a feature that substantially improves comfort levels for the occupants on-board. This system combines an intelligent sensor and a signal analysis system that calculates the external pollution levels and prevents polluted air and toxic gases from entering the cabin.
GranLusso and GranSport, Two Distinct New Worlds
Since its beginnings Maserati has represented the perfect blend of luxury and sportiness thanks to its race-bred engineering.
With the restyling of the flagship Quattroporte, Maserati launches a new range strategy to offer its highly demanding clientele the additional choice of two unique trim options that emphasize the two key pillars of the brand’s DNA: GranLusso and GranSport.
Each trim level was conceived to meet the needs of customers that seek a distinctive and unique product in the executive saloon segment.
GranLusso and GranSport are immediately recognizable thanks to their distinct exterior design and unique interiors.
The GranSport trim underscores the sporty character of the Quattroporte while enhancing the aggressive appearance of the car. Thanks to new exterior design cues and interior content that reflect the legendary racing heritage of the Maserati brand.
On the front of the Quattroporte GranSport, the dedicated restyling for the center and side air intakes improves the cooling function while showcasing an aggressive front area. The lower fascia is linked to the grille with aerodynamic inspired splits. The back is characterized by an evident composition between a center fuselage and two side pockets that focus the attention on the exhausts. An aggressive black piano spoiler completes the rear view. The Quattroporte GranSport is fitted as standard with 20” Urano rims and features a glossy black finish on the bumpers, red brake calipers and blue inserts in the front Trident and side Saetta badge as well as blue Tridents on the wheel centers. As an option, the front grille of the GranSport can be ordered in a glossy black finish.
The interior of the Quattroporte GranSport includes all-new front and rear sport seats, with their sculptured profiles, to improve sporty driving performances while a new sport steering wheel, in carbon fiber or full leather, creates a strong identity.
Thanks to the standard high gloss Piano Black wood trim on the dashboard, the brand new sport seats, the sport steering wheel fitted with aluminum gearbox paddles and the stainless steel sport pedals, the interior of the Quattroporte GranSport guarantees a truly sporty experience.
A further opportunity for customization is available in the form of the optional Exterior Carbon Pack for the GranSport trim, to further enhance the sporty exterior. This pack features external mirrors, door handles and b-pillar cover plus the profile of the front bumper in carbon fiber.
Engine-wise, the Quattroporte remains faithful to its traditions with a very wide range of engines and transmissions starting with the Quattroporte GTS, powered by the immense 523 hp 3.8 liter Ferrari produced V8 Twin-Turbo with rear wheel drive, capable of a peak torque output of 524 ft-lb and able to propel the car to 193 mph, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.6 seconds.
The Quattroporte is also available with the 404 hp 3.0 liter Ferrari-produced V6 Twin-Turbo, with rear wheel drive (Quattroporte S) or with Q4, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system available for the Quattroporte S Q4. At the top of the class for both versions are the 406 ft-lb of torque and a 177 mph top speed for the Quattroporte S and 176 mph top speed for the Quattroporte S Q4, with the S Q4 variant accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and the rear-wheel drive Quattroporte S version in 5.0 seconds.
All versions of the Quattroporte are fitted with state-of-the-art ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and electronically-controlled Skyhook shock absorbers; with an ideal 50:50 weight distribution and an extensive use of aluminum in the chassis, body and suspension, performance and comfort are again unparalleled.
The GranLusso trim reinterprets the concept of luxury in a race-bred engineered luxury saloon by enhancing the exterior finish and improving in-cabin comfort for driver and passengers. It offers a higher level of luxury using exclusive materials and special features in the finest tradition of Italian craftsmanship.
GranLusso is distinctive for a new front lower fascia design with an elegant floating bridge element and a delicate spoiler, detailed by the chrome bumper finish and the body color bumper profiles. The profile incorporates side skirts, while on the rear the look is even cleaner, characterized by a sculptured retroreflector and a body-colored spoiler; the exterior look is completed by 20” Mercurio rims and black painted brake calipers.
In the cabin, the soul of the GranLusso is epitomized by the Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior that features a patented silk fabric, unique in the industry, on the seats, doors, headliner and sun visors; the seat tailoring details and the label behind the sun visors make this version unique and exclusive.
The cabin ambience is further refined thanks to the exclusive open pore Radica wood on the dashboard and the leather steering wheel with wooden inserts. The trim not only integrates comfort oriented equipment like the power foot pedals and the electric rear sunblind, but also the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking features.
Levante, Maserati's first SUV, with its distinctively Italian style, breathtaking and iconic Maserati design features, continues to impress. Design, exclusivity and performance are the key characteristics for describing this new Maserati.
The interior of each Levante has been created with the finest materials, exquisite to the touch, from optional premium leather to Ermenegildo Zegna silk, made in Trivero by the Zegna wool mill with a patented process.
The spaciousness of the interior, enhanced by the panoramic electric sunroof (standard on Levante S), is combined with coupé-sleek external lines and the best aerodynamic efficiency in its category with a Cx coefficient of just 0.31.
The technology applied to every Levante is designed to offer outstanding performance both on- and off-road. Sophisticated suspension - double-wishbone on the front axle and multi-link on the rear, combined with electronically controlled damping, four corner air-springs providing 5 dynamic ride levels (plus one additional park-position), play an essential role in the car's handling.
Furthermore, with the lowest center of gravity in its class, perfectly balanced weight distribution (50-50) between front and rear, high levels of dynamic torsional and flexional stiffness, and a mechanical self-locking rear differential as standard, when driven on-road, the Levante delivers all the performance and emotion typical of every Maserati.
The height-adjustment of the body position is particularly useful in off-road driving, guaranteeing ride comfort at the top of the category; when set to the minimum ground clearance, it enables the car to perform at its sporty best.
Engine-wise, the Levante is equipped with the latest evolution of the Maserati 3.0-liter V6 engine. The two versions of the twin-turbo engine are acclaimed for their unique Maserati signature sound and for their exceptional performance.
The Maserati V6 engine with latest GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) and twin turbochargers is available in two versions with different horsepower: the top of the range, Levante S, delivers 424 hp and the exciting Levante delivers 345 hp. The most powerful Levante sprints to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 164 mph (best in segment), while the figures for the 345 hp version are 5.8 seconds and 156 mph, respectively.
The Levante is currently available in North American dealerships with a starting price of $72,000 for the 345 hp Levante and $83,000 for the 424 hp Levante S model (not including destination and delivery).
For 2017 the Maserati Ghibli range remains faithful to its DNA, while offering unmistakable class, top quality performance and a thrilling yet comfortable driving experience in a premium saloon that is more desirable than ever before.
The exterior design stands out for its coupé-like philosophy and several unique features, like the distinctive c-pillar that bears the iconic “Saetta” logo, the frameless doors, the pronounced grille that resembles iconic Maserati cars of the ‘50s and the four exhaust chromium-plated pipes on all versions.
When it was launched, the Ghibli offered the highest degree of customization in its segment. The MY17 takes a further step towards satisfying individual taste with the introduction of two new packages, Luxury and Sport, which enhance the standard features of every Maserati. The packages are designed to appeal to customers with differing tastes.
The Luxury and Sport packages personalize the exterior finish and create a focused environment for the driver and passengers. With the adoption of the Luxury package, the Ghibli’s cabin is even more refined thanks to the available Zegna edition Silk & Premium Leather upholstery. The Sport package instead reflects the legendary racing heritage of every Maserati and is immediately recognizable thanks to the new sport seats and sport steering wheel, fitted with aluminum gear shift paddles. Two Carbon packages, one with exterior and the other with interior elements, are now available as a further customization option and an upgrade for the Sport package.
The MY17 Ghibli benefits from interior upgrades as well. The central dashboard has been redesigned to accommodate a high-resolution 8.4” screen with multi touch function. The new infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions. The central, lower console has also been redesigned and now hosts a rotary knob to control volume and functions, a new lid and a new phone storage compartment.
All versions of the Ghibli are now equipped with Air Quality Sensor, a feature that substantially improves the comfort of occupants on-board. The system combines an intelligent sensor and a signal analysis system that calculates the external pollution levels and prevents polluted air and toxic gases from entering the cabin.
A new package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is available as an option. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind Spot Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking. An additional Surround View Camera is available as an option in combination with the ADAS package.
In terms of engines, the Ghibli and Ghibli S feature the acclaimed, Ferrari-built, Twin Turbo-charged 3.0-litre V6 engine with the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, which now features the Start&Stop function.
The Ghibli delivers 345 hp, a top speed of 163 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. The Ghibli S, with its power output of 404 hp, accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 177 mph. The Ghibli S is also available with the Q4 All Wheel Drive system. The Ghibli S Q4 accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, up to a top speed of 176 mph. The Ghibli shares parts of its core architecture - chassis, suspension layout, V6 engines and ZF 8-speed automatic transmission - with the Quattroporte. It is, however, 11.5 inches shorter and 110 lbs lighter than the flagship Italian saloon.
Dynamic and precise handling is guaranteed by the car’s perfectly balanced 50:50 weight distribution while the sophisticated suspension system and the standard limited slip differential make every ride even more enjoyable.
The sports car range is emblematically represented on the stand by the GranTurismo MC. The engine mounted in the GranTurismo MC is a 4.7 liter, 454 horsepower, naturally-aspirated gasoline 90° V8 with rear-wheel drive, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds; the top speed is 185 mph. It has 384 ft-lb of torque.
The Maserati GranTurismo combines exceptional performance with pure Italian design. It features attractive sinuous forms and a stylistic concept which harks back to the elegant 1947 Maserati A6 1500GT, the car that gave birth to the GT segment. Its long front, muscular rear and defined lines suggest a forceful forward movement – even at a standstill. Particular attention has been paid to precise adjustments in its shapes to perfect aerodynamics. With a very roomy interior designed to provide spacious accommodation for up to four adults, it offers unrivalled comfort for daily trips and long journeys alike and also keeps driver effort amazingly low even as its performance is pushed to its impressive limits.
The elegant and sumptuous hand-crafted interior blends luxury and space with performance in perfect harmony, highlighting the GranTurismo’s sporting character without sacrificing usability. Maserati also offers an unrivalled customization program, enabling every customer to “create” their own GranTurismo.
The starting price for the GranTurismo MC is $150,570.
